Doris "Dorie" Miller (1919 – 1943) was a Messman Third Class that the United States Navy noted for his bravery during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the third highest honor awarded by the US Navy at the time, after the Medal of Honor and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. The Navy Cross now precedes the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. "For distinguished devotion to duty, extraordinary courage and disregard for his own personal safety during the attack on the Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii, by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. While at the side of his Captain on the bridge, Miller, despite enemy strafing and bombing and in the face of a serious fire, assisted in moving his Captain, who had been mortally wounded, to a place of greater safety, and later manned and operated a machine gun directed at enemy Japanese attacking aircraft until ordered to leave the bridge". Miller's acts were heavily publicized in the black press, making him an iconic emblem of the war for black Americans.

Each of our orders are printed individually on demand to ensure quality. Other listings will print your poster on cheap thin bond paper stock that will quickly fade. All our posters are printed on a thick, beautiful, professional matte lithography paper stock.

Our studio also produces prints for artists, and this is the same stock that we use for them. We feel this paper just produces a superior image for all our clients. Once set under glass and in a frame, it looks even better.

This poster may have been digitally cleaned to remove perceived imperfections such as tape marks, creases, and paper tears that may have been part of the original scanned or photographed image. All prints are standard sizes and will fit in a standard sized frame. Prints are sent well protected in heavy tubing for shipping.

If for any reason, your poster is damaged in shipping, please contact us here with photos of the damage and we would be happy to replace your poster with shipping, for free.
